I sat down to work on a little something tonite at my computer and remembered that Sister Beck gave the CES fireside message tonight, so I thought I would go to byu.tv to find and listen to it while I was at my computer.
I love how plainly she speaks, how bold she is about the things that matter most, how unafraid to repeat and repeat again her messages about the importance of family roles -- and the doctrine behind them. She certainly is not teaching anything new, but rather is invoking the law of witnesses as she repeats and underscores the teachings of latter-day prophets.
In short, all that we do and should be doing should be done with God's eternal plan for families in mind. We should always remember and seek the promises of Abraham that are tied to the fullness of temple blessings that come through the sealing ordinances. She expressed ways that single members of the Church can be doing this now, with the hope of forming an eternal family, but her message is certainly applicable to any of us.
(Archives will soon be available at lds.org, or you can use the Move Media player at byu.tv and go to the CES fireside at 6:00 p.m. on March 2.)

Michelle,
did she address what happens when things don't go according to plan?
Matt W.
Matt, this was more about the ideal, which has been her focus so far.
Matt, come to think of it, I sort of take that back. She was talking to singles, and realized that their lives were still in progress, so she gave them counsel of things they can be doing and focusing on to both be furthering the Lord's work and their own personal growth and increasing their likelihood of meeting someone.
She did put everything in the context of keeping the Abrahamic covenant in mind, and putting first things first...very similar to some of the things that were said recently in the Worldwide Training Broadcast...about not letting other things get in the way of moving forward with faith in these eternal decisions.
