Learning a bit About Minerva Teichert

This was a fun story. Maybe you knew more about her than I did, but I learned something. (I never knew there was such a thing as an art mission. Did you?)

Thanks for the link, m&m. Sister Teichert is very cool. In our temple, (St. Louis) there is a print of one of her pieces. It depicts the Savior carrying the lost sheep and bringing it back in his arms. It's wonderful.

Many of the murals in the SLC and Manti temples were painted by people Brigham Young sent on art missions. And there is an exhibit right now at the church museum of art and history of some of the paintings produced by these art missionaries.

One of the things about Minerva that I think is funny is that she bartered with BYU - she would do paintings in exchange for free tuition for her children and grandchildren. What a terrific woman.

Mark,

Thanks for more tidbits.

Bartering for tuition? I LOVE it!
